If innovation and sailing performance are what you’re looking for, the Neel 45 Trimaran is an excellent choice. Voted Best Boat in 2013 by Cruising World and by Sail magazines, the Neel 45 is a deceptively easy boat to sail and goes fast, whilst providing enough comfort and style to impress.
The concept is fast cruising and the test boat crossed the Atlantic with an average speed of 10knots. What’s innovative, is that the living space is on the bridge deck, straddling the main hull. This gives excellent all-around visibility and a surprising amount of space. The build is light, strong and practical. The whole focus is long distance cruising, with speed and safety. Sailing the Neel 45 is simple. The mainsail is square topped, full batten 60m2and there is both genoa and self-tacking jib on furlers.
“Peikea” is also equipped with a code 0 gennaker and asymmetrical spinnaker, so plenty to play with. She has the optional electric winch for mainsail management as well as a handy ewincher handle. The helming station is fully equipped with B&G electronics and plotter and with bimini protection is a comfortable spot to drive the boat.
Our test sail between Tahiti and Moorea was in light wind, but we easily did just under 9knots close – hauled in 12knots of breeze and 5knots with only the asymmetrical spinnaker in less than 10 knots of breeze. See our video to enjoy test sailing “Peikea” with us! Living on board the Neel 45 is comfortable. 3 – Double cabins, a large galley and saloon and an excellent forward-facing chart table– one of the best spots on the boat for keeping an eye on the boat’s progress and surroundings. The cockpit seats 6 easily and with a full view of the ocean behind is the best terrace you could want.
“Peikea” is taking part in this year’s ARC rally and has sailed from the Caribbean to the South Pacific. Her owner needs to return to work commitments following this cruise, so she’s now on the market for another likeminded fast cruiser. She’s equipped with all you might need for long distance cruising, so solar, water maker, radar, good tender on davits, full cockpit tent and satellite phone…An excellent boat and ready to sail.
