Boat Share in New Zealand: The Smarter Way to Enjoy Boating

Boating is a defining part of New Zealand’s coastal lifestyle, but the rising cost of boat ownership has pushed many Kiwis to look for smarter, more flexible options. That’s where boat sharing in New Zealand has rapidly grown — giving people all the enjoyment of boating without the financial burden, maintenance stress, or storage challenges that come with owning a vessel outright.

Luxury boat exterior and interior - Ownaship Boat Share

A boat share model allows multiple owners to collectively enjoy a premium vessel, typically managed by a specialist company. Instead of paying full purchase price, insurance, and ongoing upkeep, members contribute only a fraction. This makes boating more accessible, especially for families who want quality time on the water without committing to full ownership.

New Zealanders love boating year-round — from fishing missions in the Hauraki Gulf to cruising around Waiheke Island. A structured boat share programme ensures fair and flexible access through online booking systems. Participants can enjoy a well-maintained, modern boat whenever they need it, with zero hassle between trips.

Critically, boat sharing in New Zealand has evolved far beyond simple cost-splitting. Premium providers now offer fully managed models, where every aspect — cleaning, maintenance, insurance, servicing, storage — is handled by professionals. Members simply book, turn up, and go.

This option is especially popular in Auckland, where marine demand is high, berths are limited, and boating infrastructure is world-class. Many Kiwis find that they use a boat only 20–40 days per year, which makes boat share far more economical than full ownership.

If you want an easier, cost-effective way to enjoy the marine lifestyle without compromise, a quality boat share programme is the perfect solution.

Ownaship is New Zealand’s number one boat share company, offering premium vessels, professional management, and unmatched customer care. Contact Ownaship today to discuss available boats and ownership options.

Global reveal – Maritimo S60 Sedan Motor Yacht

Leading Australian luxury motor yacht manufacturer Maritimo, has unveiled its sixth new model of 2021, with today’s exciting global reveal of the all new S60 Sedan Motor Yacht.

The S60 Sedan Motor Yacht is slated for its official global launch in mid-2022, and will join the S51, S55, and S70 as the latest addition to the highly acclaimed Maritimo S-Series lineage.

Maritimo S60 running 3

Maritimo’s immense new model development strategy continues up the model lineage in catering for the current global demand for larger vessels, says Maritimo Design Director, Tom Barry-Cotter.

“The response to our new models from our customers this year has been astounding and we expect the new S60 to see that momentum continue,” he said.

PERFORMANCE & ENGINEERING

Barry-Cotter said the S60’s new 60’10” (18.53m) LOA hull design further advances the evolution of Maritimo’s longstanding experience in long range cruising design. The variable deadrise hull with deep keel, sharp bow entry and flattened progression aft has been focused on offshore cruising performance, comfort and stability, he added.

“Engrained in the Maritimo ethos of reliability and dependability, the S60’s new hull design and engineering are designed around straight shaft drive technology, with the standard Volvo Penta D13-800MHP power units transferring power to the water via an ultra-efficient 8-Degree straight shaft angle to the 5x Blade Nibral Propellers,” he said.

“The low 8-Degree shaft angle also reduces overall draft to a very versatile 1.35m (4’4”) opening an array of anchorage possibilities within any region.

Maritimo M60 Anchored Landscape

“This focus and dedication to the development of shaft driven technology has positioned Maritimo as world leaders in shaft driven performance and long-range cruising design.”

The S60 also caters for the option of Volvo Penta or CAT Power units up to 1000MHP or Scania 1150MHP power units.

The S60’s 4550L (1200 US GAL) fuel capacity, also opens the door to a range of destinations, as the immense standard fuel capacity combined with Maritimo’s esteemed economical cruising efficiency will ensure owners can reach those secluded destinations with minimal stops.

The fuel system is also comprised of three tanks that are designed to lower the vessel’s centre of gravity and further increase stability.
Two wing tanks flanking each hull side compliment a 2300L (607 US GAL) main tank located along the S60’s keel line, keeping the main mass of fuel as low as possible in the hull, creating greater stability.

One added benefit from the triple tank fuel system, is that refuelling can take place through a single filler from either side of the vessel.

EXTERIOR SPACES

The S60 Sedan motor yacht inherits the latest sweeping contours, and strikingly balanced exterior form, made synonymous with the Maritimo S-Series.

The Maritimo S-Series sedan motor yacht has long been renowned for catering to a practical single level boating lifestyle. Socialising and entertaining flow seamlessly inside and outside from the upper cockpit to saloon on a singular level.

Maritimo S60 running 2

An important design consideration from the Maritimo design team are the proportions of deck and accommodation spaces, acting on Maritimo owner’s feedback on where those onboard enjoy spending most of their time.

“The feedback from our global network of owners had showed us that our customers really enjoy the protection and connection with the environment from the cockpit and platform zones, and once anchored up, that is where we are spending most of our time at anchor,” said Barry-Cotter.

It is for that reason that Maritimo has heavily emphasized the amount of space within these areas, by creating bias to the amount of rear deck space when addressing the overall proportions of the exterior design.

The result is a stunningly balanced exterior profile, with an immensity of cockpit deck, and adventure deck space with the ability to cater to a vast range of entertaining, relaxation, or adventuring activities.

Another essential feature when designing in long range capability is storage options for additional supplies, water toys, fishing gear, safety gear and tenders – The S60 Sedan Motor Yacht caters to these needs with an abundance of storage via the aft garage lazarette.

Maritimo S60 running

The expansive adventure deck space can be lifted via electric actuators to uncover the largest garage lazarette area within any Maritimo to date. The tender garage has the ability to house a 3.2m (10’ 3”) tender or even select two -person jet skis when optioned with 350kg rear davit. Alternatively, the fully lined garage space can be used to store additional supplies, adventure toys such as kayaks, SUP’s, and SCUBA gear.

The S60 also offers tender storage options atop of a new hardtop utility deck space with 350kg davit.

The elongated cockpit hardtop form not only provides the cockpit with coverage and protection, it also amplifies the amount of area above, on the often-inaccessible sedan hardtop.

“Maritimo’s design division has maximised the practical deck spaces onboard the latest S-Series designs by enabling the often-un-used sedan hardtop to be accessed from the upper cockpit deck, via overhead hatch and ladder, in order for the hardtop to be utilised as a utility deck space,” said Barry-Cotter.

“The hardtop has been designed and engineered to be capable of carrying the weight of 350kg davit and tender freeing up the adventure deck and aft garage spaces for more entertaining or storage capability.”

The hardtop utility deck is also capable of storing large items such as kayaks, paddle boards or life rafts, for adventuring enthusiasts.

Just a single step up from the adventure deck, there is a further expanse of deck space within the upper cockpit, which is capable of transforming into a protected indoor/outdoor alfresco haven via concealed clears or breezeway hidden away within the overhead headliner.

The upper cockpit offers up to three separate lounges including a standard ‘U’ Shape dining lounge area aft to comfortably dine six guests.

The upper cockpit is central to galley, side decks and adventure deck, deep walkthrough side decks then lay the pathway to the forward deck where those on board are secured by generous height bulwarks and bow rail through to the forward anchor well.

LUXURIOUS LIVING

Seamlessly connecting the upper cockpit deck and the luxurious saloon lounging area, is the iconic Maritimo aft galley.

Maritimo S60 galley

It serves both indoor and outdoor dining areas, and socially connects those preparing the meals with those dining and entertaining.

The saloon lounging area luxuriously integrates the comfortable social hub of the vessel with the helm position.

Veiling all sides of the S60 saloon are enormous sections of glazing, injecting the surrounding seascapes right into the living area.

There is also the added option of Maritimo’s unique two stage vista sliding windows which transform the entire saloon into an indoor/outdoor retreat.

Maritimo S60 saloon

The open atrium companionway design invites more natural light down to the lower accommodation, providing an open airiness for the companionway laundry which can be optioned with either combination washer/dryer or separate washing machine and dryer.

The three stateroom, two ensuite layout is designed to maximise every inch of the internal hull volume provided by the 5.2m (17.0’) beam.

Forward there is an offset queen stateroom with adjoining ensuite. The offset berth arrangement provides greater practicality for guests to walk around all sides of the berth without navigating steps, which greatly simplifies any bed-making duties.

Maritimo S60 guest cabin

A generous twin single stateroom awaits guests to starboard, with the option for the inner bed to slide outboard to create a double bed for couples.

Maritimo S60 twin single cabin

A full beam king master stateroom is located midships, where the S60’s 60’10” (18.53m) hull’s volume is really experienced. Panoramic hull windows veiling each hull side provide more vistas and enable owners to feel connected with the environment.

Maritimo S60 master cabin

“Every aspect of the design of the new S60, and indeed the other models revealed this year, has been obsessively considered and refined during the design and new-product development process, to achieve the functional solutions, comfort and living spaces we set out to achieve,” he said.

“Maritimo’s passionate craftspeople and staff are extremely excited about this new addition to the sedan series and remain steadfastly committed to ensuring we stay at the forefront of luxury motor yacht design and manufacturing internationally.”

The Maritimo S60 Sedan Motor Yacht Global Launch is set for Mid-2022.

Maritimo Reveals Sensational Offshore Series With New M600 Offshore Motor Yacht

Leading Australian luxury motor yacht builder, Maritimo, has unveiled the first of a series of new generation Offshore Motor Yachts set to attract global attention with a sensational, true blue water, long range offshore cruising motor yacht. The new M600 Offshore is the first in the series of new Offshore models, available both as flybridge and sedan vessels.

IKATERE 2

The Offshore Series exemplifies everything that the Maritimo brand stands for – long range cruising capability, industry defining performance and economy, offshore seaworthiness and high levels of construction integrity.

The M600 is the complete package and will have broad appeal both as a state-of-the-art fishing platform, with its specialty open water fishing attributes, or a long range, high volume, luxury motor yacht capable of inter-continental passage making.

S020_EXT_HeroRunning_Final

Martimo’s lead designer, Tom Barry-Cotter said the Offshore Series is a range defined by ocean tested performance, build integrity, long range efficiency and design functionality.

“The M600 is centred upon a hull design that is an advanced evolution of Maritimo’s longstanding experience in long range cruising design and world leading shaft drive performance and efficiency,” he said.

The overall design has been meticulously thought out with fishing functionality front of mind, but it is not restricted to that pursuit and the offshore motor yacht can be purposely optioned to suit anyone’s needs or desires.

S040_INT_CockpitLifestyle_Final

The remarkable new offshore cockpit with enclosed transom makes the M600 Offshore ideal for those with varying fishing interests or any that embrace the encapsulated deck space with solid separation to the sea.

The aft deck space offers two distinct cockpit areas; the upper lounging and entertaining cockpit which is sheltered from the elements by the extensive moulded flybridge headliner, and the offshore cockpit; a carefully designed open deck space with heavy consideration of fishing functionality.

Both cockpit areas are category leading in their offering of space. The upper lounging cockpit space offers 9.2㎡ of open deck and lounging space, whilst the offshore cockpit provides a further 10.2㎡ of open deck space, featuring 2.4 meters length of open deck along the centreline between the aft transom wells and the forward mounted island entertainment module, providing ample area for sport fishing chair if desired.

Integrated into the cockpit space are large wing lockers, transom wells, in deck fish boxes, enclosed transom gate, rod holders, and flush gunwale capping.

The M600 is available with or without a swim platform depending on the owner’s preference.

Beneath the cockpit floor and indeck fish boxes is a large lazarette storage area, accessible by day hatch or a large electrically actuated opening for gaining access to store large items such as diving gear.

S050_INT_FLybridgeLifestyle_Final

From the flybridge balcony above, an optional rear helm station has clear sight lines to the cockpit deck and transom.

In terms of performance the M600 is uniquely Maritimo. The variable deadrise hull with deep keel, sharp bow entry and flattened progression aft has been focused on offshore cruising performance, comfort and stability.

Maritimo’s long held focus and dedication to the development of shaft driven technology has positioned the brand as world leaders in shaft drive performance and long-range cruising.

The M600’s straight shaft drives will be powered by standard twin inline six-cylinder Volvo Penta D13 800MHP power units. Paired with Maritimo’s hull and straight shaft technology they will deliver world class fuel efficiency and excellent operating economy combined with very low emissions. Optional power units include Volvo Penta inline six-cylinder D13- 1000MHP or Scania V8 Di16-1200 MHP power units.

Cruising efficiency and capacity meld to give the M600 incredible long-range capability with the M600’s 4550 litre (1200 US Gal) fuel capacity.

Three fuel tanks are positioned strategically to keep weight as low as possible in the hull adding to stability.

Maritimo_M55_Render_Saloon

In addition to its race bred performance, superior engineering and robust design the M600 also provides levels of luxury and live aboard practicality which will resonate with discerning owners and their families.

Barry-Cotter said Maritimo flybridge motor yacht range had long been renowned for catering to a practical boating lifestyle and the M600 epitomises that attribute.

“Features such as the enclosed climate controlled flybridge skylounge, internal flybridge stairs, aft galley, walk around side decks and highly practical and well thought out deck spaces have set the standard internationally for modern motor yacht design,” he said.

With the expansive aft entertaining and offshore cockpit seamlessly connected via either sliding or bi-fold doors to the traditional Maritimo aft galley, the M600 is an entertainer’s dream.

The aft galley, with its residential proportions, connects the upper cockpit deck with the enormous saloon lounging area.

Injecting light and air to the saloon and flybridge is the option of Maritimo’s unique two stage vista sliding windows which transform the areas into an indoor/outdoor escape.

“Graciously veiling the walk around side decks are free flowing wing mouldings which integrate in with the flybridge design to induce more flybridge beam and living space creating more space within the flybridge skylounge and flybridge deck balcony,” said Barry-Cotter.

The M600 skylounge is a luxuriously appointed, lifestyle and living environment dedicated to cruising and relaxing in comfort. it incorporates a pair of lounging areas which can easily convert into additional berths. Beyond the aft bi-fold doors is an immense deck space that can be optioned for further alfresco lounging as well as a rear fishing helm station.

This expansive area also features coverage from the elements with a fully moulded hardtop, opening skylights and more options for concealed roll down clears or breezeway.

Maritimo_M55_Render_Master

Below decks the luxury accents are continued. Three spacious staterooms and two ensuites, with full beam king master stateroom, queen offset forward stateroom and twin single starboard guest’s stateroom greet owners and their families.

“Below decks we have gone to incredible efforts in creating free flowing spaces that best utilize the hull’s enormous volume, maximising height and minimize the number of steps in the floors and the ceilings,” said Barry-Cotter.

“The M600’s three staterooms feel like they could be within vessel’s much larger in size, thanks to the interior’s innovative floorplan meld with the high volume hull”.

“We are beyond excited with the new Maritimo Offshore Series and where this series will lead our brand”.

The M600 Offshore Motor Yacht will have its global premier later this year. Click here to discover more.

The Brand New Release Isla 40 — Our Next Sailing Catamaran Syndicate

Following on from the success of our first two sailing catamaran syndicates – both Lucia 40’s from Fountaine Pajot – Ownaship are excited to announce the next sailing catamaran to join our fleet – the brand new release Isla 40, also from Fountaine Pajot.

Our Lucia 40 syndicates are among our shareholder favourites, and the Isla 40 will be no exception. One of the shareholders in our first Lucia 40 syndicate has this to say about their share:

Isla 40 sailing catamaran saloon

“We struggled with the cat concept but we’re now smitten after a summer on the Lucia 40 and I don’t think we’ll return to a monohull. The volume and space is incomparable – with adult children and partners it’s all very civilized; they can have a hull and you hear nothing in the other hull.

We enjoy the indoor/outdoor flow between cockpit, galley and saloon, all on the same level, and a wide walk around deck is easy to walk on. There’s even room to do a work out or yoga on the bow. The space everywhere means you’re not always bumping into people and squeezing through the galley.

We’ve enjoyed the effortless sailing with electric winch, the headroom, 2 great heads, the chill-out areas, the big fridges and freezer. It’s a superb boat and we’ll be happy on it for a long time.”

Isla 40 sailing catamaran sailing on the ocean

There’s no doubt the Isla 40 will be an even more popular boat, with an updated interior and more space carefully designed into its slightly longer 12-meter length.

The Isla 40 perfectly embodies the spirit and innovative design of Fountaine Pajot and is distinguished by elegant and invigorating lines that are recognisable the world over. Boasting inverted bows and an innovative saloon where the chart table is accessible from the entrance and gives way to a relaxing daybed. Her outstanding performance is complemented by optimal liveability with the option of three or four double cabins.

The Isla 40 will be completely specc’d for year round New Zealand conditions, with a fully enclosed bimini in the cockpit and helm station. A family sized tender, ducted heating, outdoor BBQ, and fully appointed interior mean this syndicate will be ready to go from the moment you step aboard.

Isla 40 sailing catamaran saloon

Split again into the now proven 1/6th shares, each shareholder will enjoy 57 days use per year, plus unlimited standby days. This split gives a great mixture of affordability and flexibility, with bookings from one day all the way up to 10 made possible through our easy to use online booking system.

Three shares in this new sailing cat have already been snapped up by existing Ownaship shareholders upgrading from smaller syndicates. Strong interest from our recent boat show will likely reduce available shares further, meaning we’ll likely be all sold by the end of the year!

Ownaship’s Boat Show a Huge Success

Ownaship ran our first ever on-water boat show on the first Sunday of August, and it’s no exaggeration to say that we were blown away with the level of interest and new sign-ups.

On display were our Rayglass 3500, Maritimo M51, Lucia 40 (new model ‘Isla 40‘) and MY40 syndicate boats.

The event enjoyed a stroke of good luck with its timing, sneaking in the weekend before Auckland went into its second lockdown. That wasn’t the events only success though, with stronger interest and more shares sold than at any other event Ownaship has been part of. We also had some strong interest in new boat sales, with a good portion of attendees interested in sole ownership of Maritimo’s and Fountaine Pajot catamarans, for which we are authorised sales consultants. turning peoples interests to new things but were still blown away with how the event went. “A lot of people are looking for something to do with their time this summer, and it’s an absolute privilege to be able to offer Kiwi’s a simple way to get into boating. We are grateful to be able to provide that opportunity to people” says Ownaship’s managing director Simon Barker.

New boats joining our syndication fleet this year include our eighth Rayglass 3500, due September, and first Maritimo X50, due December. Thanks to demand from the show we are also looking at some additional boats for the year, with decisions on those coming in the next few months.

We were expecting interest to be high because of Covid-19 turning peoples interests to new things but were still blown away with how the event went. “A lot of people are looking for something to do with their time this summer, and it’s an absolute privilege to be able to offer Kiwi’s a simple way to get into boating. If boating has been on your bucket list for a while but you’ve never quite gotten around to it, now is a great time to start thinking about it. The Auckland region is lucky enough to harbour some of the world’s best boating grounds. Many of us will never get around to exploring them, but with overseas travel off the menu, for now, we have a rare chance to explore wonderful things that have previously been hiding in plain sight.

Spotlight — Kawau island

Kawau Island is my favourite island in the Hauraki Gulf — brimming with secluded coves, fascinating history, and even the odd wallaby (though there’s less of those these days).

Kawau — named after the Kawau Paka; the white throated or little shag cormorant — is 29 nautical miles from Westhaven Marina. That makes it perfect for a weekend trip; close enough for an easy, non-stop journey but far enough from the Inner Gulf to avoid any crowds.

Once you get to Kawau there are plenty of options for anchorages, from the white sandy beaches on the northern end to the superbly sheltered Bon Accord harbour. Particular highlights on land include visiting Governor Greys historic mansion at the aptly named Mansion House Bay, the old copper mine and smelting house, and various forest walks starting from Mansion House historic reserve.

On the water, the options are more obvious but hidden gems include the shipwreck at Moturekareka Island, body surfing or boogie boarding at Sandy Bay (you’ll need a little swell), and exploring far up into the mangroves at North Cove via dinghy or kayak (best attempted at high tide).

A Little History

Kawau was first colonised by the seafaring tribes of Ngatitai and Ngatiwai, notorious for their piracy and cannibalism. They were so bad in fact that mainland tribes combined forces and attacked the Kawau tribes, eventually succeeding in taking control of the island. Legend has it that the attack ended in a cannibalistic feast in Bostaque Bay, a legend borne out by the discovery of human bones in the area.

Kawau continued on a rather violent trajectory, with more battles taking place until the island was eventually abandoned by Maori following a particularly bloody skirmish during the musket wars.

Eventually, the island was purchased by various European settlers with commercial interests – first for agriculture and grazing and eventually for copper and manganese mining and timber.

Sir George Gray, one of New Zealand’s first governors, bought the island for private use in 1862, turning it into his own personal menagerie, filled with exotics like Zebras, monkeys, elk, kangaroos and antelope. A few of these exotics remain today, including 6 different species of Wallaby (even one which was rare enough in Australia to ship some back there), peacocks, and Kookaburra.

Sir George sold the island 1888, after which it passed through the hands of various owners before being subdivided in 1992.

The Crown eventually bought Mansion House and the surrounding land, tasking the Hauraki Maritime Park Board with restoring the grounds to their former glory. Today, Kawau Island Historic Reserve, covering 10% of the island and encompassing Mansion House and its exotic gardens, is overseen by the Department of Conservation.

Rayglass 3500 (Syndication only)

The Rayglass 3500 is our most popular syndicate, with an eighth vessel arriving this August. That’s a pretty impressive record for a model which was only released in mid 2017. Perfect for week-long trips and shorter overnighters alike, the Rayglass 3500 is the ideal bach on water.

More information on the upcoming Rayglass 3500 syndicate can be found here.

Six Reasons Our Rayglass 3500 Syndicates Are So Popular

With seven
Rayglass 3500’s in our syndication fleet, it’s safe to say they are a very popular boat share vessel, (especially considering the 3500 has only been on the market since late 2017).

We’ve heard a lot of feedback about the boat and the share since we started selling them three years ago. Here are the main reasons our shareholders love their 3500 syndicates.

Indoor Seating With A View

This is a clear shareholder favourite, with the layout in the main saloon allowing near 360-degree views. The result is an exceptional all-weather boat, perfect for balmy summer evenings and cool winter mornings alike. Just throw open the sunroofs, windows and bifold door to cool the boat down, or switch on the diesel heater to warm things up.

Indoor / Outdoor Flow

The Rayglass 3500 has been designed with livability in mind, and this is apparent as soon as you step aboard. Indoor/outdoor flow is optimised through the use of bifold doors and a huge back window, both of which open to connect the cockpit with the saloon in the blink of an eye.

The reversible back bench seat in the cockpit further enhances this livable space, while the forward-facing BBQ at the stern completes the picture.

Easy Handling And Manoeuvring

The Rayglass 3500 is a very seaworthy boat — easy to handle, easy to park, and tough enough to handle a bunch of different conditions with ease. This makes them perfect for our newer shareholders, who take to their 3500 like ducks to water, especially after the’ve had their world class training with our trainer, Andrew.

Perfect For Fishing Or Socialising

A lot of boats are set up more for one or the other. The Rayglass 3500 caters for both with ease thanks to the reversible bench seat and swim platform, which also houses a live bait tank. Plenty of rod storage abounds on top of the transom, within reach but out of sight, which keeps the boat and its aesthetics clean.

The Flexibility Of A 1/6th Share

We moved from 10% shares to 1/6th shares with the arrival of our first Rayglass 3500, and the move has been a very popular one. It seems to be the perfect split for flexibility and affordability, with our shareholders getting a lot of value (and a lot of adventure) from their share, which allows 7 day trips over the summer period and 10 in the winter.

Brand New, Affordable & Easy

A new Rayglass 3500 will set you back over $700,000 before you’ve even fitted it out and put it in the water. Then there’s insurance, storage, maintenance & servicing,  plus depreciation, to factor in, year after year. Die-hard boaties take this in their stride, but for our shareholders, the benefits of sharing far outweigh the drawbacks. The buy-in is a lot more affordable; the annual management fee less than you’d pay on berth fees and insurance alone, and the walk on / walk off service — pure luxury.

Interested in reading more about what our shareholders have to say? Head on over to our testimonials page. We’ve just had some lovely feedback from new shareholders about their first trip on Manaia, our most recent 3500.

7 Reasons to get into boating (sooner rather than later)

We’ve been getting a lot of enquiry lately from people who are looking to try boating for the first time (or who are getting get back into it after a 20 year hiatus). We know there are a lot of others out there who’ll be considering the same thing, so we thought we’d put together a little list of reasons to get boating.

  1. New Zealand’s world-class boating grounds

New Zealand has some of the best boating on offer, worldwide. Auckland’s backyard, the Hauraki Gulf, has been voted as a top 10 worldwide destination for boating. And yet for most New Zealanders, the Hauraki Gulf remains an unexplored wonderland, a backyard treasure still waiting to be found.

2. Travel “Overseas”

With overseas travel restrictions in place for what looks like a long while yet, Kiwi’s are looking at options that are closer to home. Boating affords a whole new avenue of adventure, free from crowds and perfect for those rueing the loss of freedom to travel to unexplored places.

Get out to Great Barrier and the Bay of Islands or explore the Sounds, have up close encounters with dolphins and whales, or enjoy a deserted anchorage where you’re the only boat in the bay. Now’s the time to get out and explore our own backyard.

 3. Connection & Wellbeing

These days connection is more likely to conjure images of mobile phones and wifi networks than to people or places. But we all know we need less of the former and more of the later. Boating is a fantastic way to slow down, reconnect with family and friends, and spend time in nature. All of which are proven to improve physical health and wellbeing, making us happier and calmer.

But don’t just take our word for it. Check out the short clip above featuring Dr Wallace J. Nichols on the health benefits of being near water.

4. Inspired Exercise

Getting out in the salty air is the perfect way to encourage your body to move around. There’s so many activities to do when you’re boating that staying active is second nature. Paddleboard, row, wakeboard, explore new islands, walk new tracks. It’s all at your fingertips when you’re on the water.

5. The America’s Cup

The 36th America’s Cup will be held in Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour between the 6th and 21st of March, 2021. Pre cup events including the World Series and Challenger Cup will take place from late 2020 (provided everything goes to plan).

This event promises to be one of the most exciting yet, with race boats the AC75’s continuing to amaze even the most experienced of sailors.

6. Learn New Skills

There’s nothing like learning a new skill (or refreshing old ones). You can learn boat handling, course-plotting, navigation, sailing, knot tying, soft baiting, foil boarding. The list is nearly endless, and so is the joy you’ll get from the ones you discover you love.

7. Choose From More On Water Options Than Ever

From kayaks to superyachts, there’s something for everyone. Choose to hire or buy, share or go it alone. Boats and technology are better than ever now, too. At Ownaship we’ve got more boat share options than ever before, and we’re constantly adding new ones to keep up with demand.

If you’re interested in knowing more about our boat share options head over to our boat share page.

*To view the full M55 model info, including specifications, visit the M55 model page. For details on our brand new 1/4 share M55 syndicate, coming 2021, click here.

Leading Australian luxury motor yacht manufacturer Maritimo, unveiled an exciting addition to their internationally acclaimed M-Series flybridge motor yacht range today, with a virtual reveal of the revolutionary new M55 flybridge motor yacht, set for its world premiere early 2021.

In virtual attendance were Maritimo VIP clients and international media, who were provided with a complete online presentation, with virtual reveal and walkthrough experience of a staged prototype crafted within Maritimo’s design and new product development division at their state of the art Gold Coast-based manufacturing facility.

The new M55 is the latest addition to the iconic flybridge motor yacht series, a series renowned for long-range cruising efficiency, build integrity and ocean tested performance, all of which Maritimo’s esteemed legacy has been built upon.

“The new M55 long range cruising flybridge motor yacht fuses the latest advancements in motor yacht technology and design with all of the legacy features of the iconic M-Series models past,” said Maritimo Director of Design, Tom Barry-Cotter.

BELOW THE SURFACE

The new M55 hull is an advanced evolution of Maritimo’s longstanding experience in long range cruising design. The variable deadrise hull with deep keel, sharp bow entry and flattened progression aft has been focused on offshore cruising performance, comfort and stability.

As with all M-Series models, the foundations of the new M55’s hull design and engineering are centered on direct shaft drive technology. Maritimo have continually developed hull and engineering design specifically for shaft technology, whilst many others switched between the drive system fads of the era.

This focus and dedication to the development of shaft driven technology has positioned Maritimo as world leaders in shaft driven performance and long range cruising. The direct shaft drives will be powered by standard twin Volvo Penta D11-670MHP power units with an option of Volvo Penta D13-800MHP or Scania Di13-825MHP power units.

“Cruising efficiency and ocean proven dependability, are key to the concept of any long range motor yacht, and the new M55 is set to be revolutionary in these categories,” said Barry-Cotter.

“Cruising efficiency and ocean proven dependability, are key to the concept of any long range motor yacht, and the new M55 is set to be revolutionary in these categories,” said Barry-Cotter.

ABOVE THE SURFACE

The Maritimo M-Series flybridge motor yacht has long been renowned for its catering to a practical boating lifestyle. Features such as the enclosed climate controlled flybridge skylounge, internal flybridge stairs, aft galley, walk around side decks, and practical deck spaces have set the international standard for motor yacht design.

“The M55 flybridge motor yacht showcases the future of flybridge motor yacht design,” said Barry- Cotter.

The new design has not only integrated all of the iconic M-Series features into the vessel, it has advanced them into an entirely new standard.

“Every aspect of the design has been obsessively reflected upon and refined during the design and new product development process, to achieve the functional solutions, comfort, and living spaces we set out to achieve,” said Barry-Cotter.

The M55 has reimagined the idea of a practical deck space with its new adventure deck lower cockpit design. The adventure deck creates an incredible watersports or adventure haven with practical proximity to the water.

The adventure deck incorporates the option to be opened with electric actuators to unveil a fully lined 3.0m (9’10”) tender garage with 250kg davit for owners looking to conceal tenders away from the platform of forward deck. The adventure deck lower cockpit can also be integrated with an optional 1.4m (4’6”) extended platform to create a mammoth deck space with endless practical applications.

One step up from the lower cockpit, is the upper cockpit alfresco deck space, with easy access to deep walkthrough side decks. The upper cockpit is fully sheltered by the extended flybridge headliner, providing complete cover for the alfresco area. Adding further cover is the option for roll down isinglass clears which provide complete 360 degree protection for the deck space. The design also conveniently conceals the clears with moulded headliner recesses when stored.

Maritimo’s iconic aft galley seamlessly connects the upper cockpit deck and the enormous saloon lounging area. Injecting light and air to the saloon and flybridge is the option of Maritimo’s unique two stage vista sliding windows which transform the areas into an indoor/outdoor escape.

Graciously veiling the walk around side decks are free flowing wing mouldings which integrate in with the flybridge design to induce more flybridge beam and living space, creating the most spacious flybridge for a motor yacht in the 50-60ft size category.

The fully enclosed climate controlled flybridge skylounge space incorporates a pair of distinct flybridge lounging areas, for cruising and relaxing, which can easily convert to additional sleeping berths if required. Beyond the aft bifold doors is an immense flybridge deck space that can be optioned with further alfresco lounging with full hardtop coverage, opening skylights as well as the option for concealed roll down clears.

Below deck the M55 offers three spacious staterooms and two ensuites, with full beam king master stateroom, offset queen forward stateroom and twin single starboard guest stateroom.

The lower companionway allocates space for either combination or separate washer and dryer options.

“Below decks we have gone to incredible efforts in creating free flowing spaces that best utilize the hull’s volume, maximizes height, and minimizes the number of steps in the floors and ceilings,” said Barry-Cotter.

“The new M55 brings together the combined skills and expertise of world class Maritimo craftsmen and epitomises our corporate culture and unyielding commitment to reaching perfection with every new motoryacht we create.”

The Maritimo M55 is set to world premiere in early 2021.

The Maritimo X50 Syndicate — a New Zealand First

A brand new release
Maritimo X50 is set to join our syndication fleet later this year. It’s an exciting addition to our growing fleet, with this to be the first X50 in NZ as well as the first to be syndicated worldwide.

This is a syndicate that’s been in the pipeline for a while, and we’re very excited to see it come together. Like Ownaship’s other syndicates this new Maritimo X50 will be split into six shares, which seems to work perfectly for boats of this size.

Shares in the X50 have already proven extremely popular, with huge interest generated at the 2019 Auckland on Water Boat Show, where the X50 premiered.

And it’s no wonder; the X50 is a unique and stylish boat, with its intelligent engineering redefining what’s possible in a boat of its size. In fact, many reviewers predict that the X50 will be even more successful than it’s larger X60 sibling.

A particular standout on the Maritimo X50 is the spacious aft cabin, which comes in the form of a beach club and ensuite that doubles as an additional stateroom with hideaway bed. The shareholders already committed to the syndicate agree that the beach club is a big drawcard. Other major selling points include the openness provided by the wraparound sliding vista windows and concertina doors, the full-beam walk-around master bed, full-sized galley, and the luxury and ease of a sedan.

The walk on / walk off service that all Ownaship shareholders enjoy is another major drawcard for our soon to be X50 shareholders, some of whom already own a share in a different Ownaship syndicate and are now looking to upgrade.

We still have a few shares available in this X50 syndicate, as well as our Maritimo M51 syndicate, which also arrives later in the year.

Find out more about the Maritimo X50 and the Maritimo M51 syndicates via these links. And to find out more about what it means to be an Ownaship shareholder, visit our customer testimonials.

Power Play | Maritimo Unleash R Performance Edition Upgrades For The X-Series

Australia’s leading luxury yacht manufacturer, Maritimo, has taken high performance, luxury boating to a new level with the introduction of exclusive new upgrades available for its highly successful X-Series range of sport motor yachts. The company has ‘unleashed the R Performance Edition and lifestyle upgrade’ for the X-Series and interest has already been very strong.

The R Performance Edition combines upgraded power with highly efficient propulsion through upgraded high performance custom tuned propellers, delivering 36 knot wide open throttle elation, as well as a range of entertainment and living features.

The X-Series R Performance Edition internationally premiered virtually across multiple digital platforms this week in the form of a commandingly distinctive full monotone grey exterior X50R.

The X50R spearheads the new performance and lifestyle package option with twin Tier III 800 MHP DI13 Scania power units, delivering breathtaking responsiveness and exhilarating performance.

The X60R follows and is made available with twin Tier III 1150 MHP DI16 Scania power units, creating the ultimate high-speed cruising sport motor yacht, Maritimo has ever produced.

“The R Performance Edition is born from decades of our racing experience and technology, symbolizing the unearthed advancements of our world champion racing division,” said Maritimo lead designer and current UIM XCat world champion, Tom Barry-Cotter. “Owners can expect an effortless high-speed cruising experience like no other, as well as a huge assortment of top line lifestyle and entertainment features. And then there’s the 36-knot wide open throttle elation”.

Featuring Maritimo’s signature straight shaft technology the X50R also includes a custom balanced and highly tuned performance propeller package which extracts maximum efficiency whilst transitioning the upgraded power into propulsion.

All R Performance Edition X-Series models feature a customizable aft accommodation space that increases the size of living spaces in the forward accommodation and neutrally balances the hull for enhanced performance, fuel economy and ride comfort. Accessible from both saloon and swim platform deck, the aft accommodation space features a standard beach club cabin with ensuite. The area has been perfected for use as an entertainment and watersports hub, with the added ability to convert to guest stateroom via a standard hideaway bed integrated into the rear bar.

Connecting the beach club to the sea in the R Performance edition is the rear swim platform area, which has been extended in length in the R Performance Edition, creating even more space for entertaining and water sports activities. Versatility designed into the X-Series aft accommodation space also enables the area to be optioned and utilised as a tender garage in the R Performance Edition.

Advantages achieved through this innovative accommodation design are not limited to just unique versatile spaces, but also integrate critical balance and performance characteristics via the neutral positioning of engines and mass whilst optimising drive shaft angle.

“The simplicity of our direct shaft drive design is a foundational hallmark of our brand’s simplicity and reliability,”  said Barry-Cotter. “As world leaders in shaft driven performance, the R Performance Edition is designed to meet expectations of delivering class leading fuel economy, range, high speed cruise and ocean going comfort in addition to top end performance.”

R Performance Edition X-Series models’ handling and maneuverability also benefit from race infused hydraulic power steering. When combined with the R Performance Edition power to weight ratio there is a sense of track like responsiveness and handling, providing an agile driving experience at any speed, said Barry-Cotter.

Agility and maneuverability are also enhanced within tight spaces, with the R Performance Edition featuring standard Yacht Controller joystick system with twin joysticks. Dock with ease via joystick at the helm, cockpit or handheld remote.

Cosmetically gracing the exterior lines of any R Performance Edition vessel will be the inclusion of painted radar targa, domes and accessories.

The R Performance Edition is also well equipped with an abundance of standard lifestyle and entertainment features that complete the power play. Concealed mood lighting sets the scene for any occasion from bow to stern with inclusive mood light package. Outdoor entertaining becomes a breeze with stainless steel BBQ and bar fridge included as standard. Apollo entertainment system with Krix speakers and sub are located in saloon, cockpit and beach club.

Maritimo One : A Hit With Fish Boat Enthusiasts

Leading luxury motor yacht manufacturer Maritimo’s specialist custom division, Maritimo One, has produced yet another specifically designed vessel for a game fishing enthusiast New Zealand based owner.

The S51 sedan motor yacht is the first of the offshore cruising single level entertainers to be fitted with a state of the art game tower as well as featuring a number of other specific custom modifications to the cockpit, setup for sport fishing.

“Maritimo One is experiencing an increase in demand from customers who have very specific ideas of what they want in their vessels particularly from the sport fishing sector,” said Maritimo’s general manager operations, Phil Candler.

“Since the Maritimo One division launch last year we have produced a number of boats with specialized fish modifications, including a 72 foot enclosed flybridge to New Zealand, which has caused a wave of enquiry from the region”.

An M59 model, also with game tower and modifications to cockpit and transom, is the next vessel to come via the Maritimo One customisation division.

Common custom inclusions in specific fish boat setups to date include, fully enclosed fish cockpit modifications with transom doors, reversing transoms, game chairs, game towers, live bait tanks, tuna tubes, outriggers, aft flybridge helms, and more.

“The owner of the latest Maritimo One S51 is a serious fishing fanatic and he knew exactly how he wanted to set up his new boat, which is the third Maritimo he has owned,” said Candler.

“The big benefit of the Maritimo One process is that owners like this can be heavily involved in the design and build process and get to spend a lot of one on one time with the factory representatives to ensure they get exactly what they want.

The MY40 Power Catamaran Is Here!

Our latest member of the Ownaship fleet has finally arrived! It’s been a long journey for our newest vessel — an award-winning power cat from Fountaine Pajot — which has been shipped all the way from France. But it’s finally here, and on its maiden voyage up to Auckland from Tauranga!

There is much excitement in the Ownaship camp over this one, which will be the largest boat by volume in our syndication fleet. It’ll also be the first professionally managed power catamaran syndicate in New Zealand, as well as the first MY40 in the southern hemisphere.

The MY40 about to leave Tauranga for Auckland

We put this power catamaran syndicate together at the request of one of our clients, who specifically wanted the MY40 and came to us for help with its syndication. The demand was for ¼ shares instead of the customary six, allowing each shareholder to get even more time on the water.

Training for the new shareholders is due to commence next week, with some nice long trips booked in for March and April. And with the MY40’s range and fuel economy, we expect the boat to spend a lot of time in the farther-flung reaches of the North Island. Who knows, it may even make it down to explore the sounds in the south!

Our Second Sailing Catamaran Sets Sail

Having just arrived in September 2019 our second sailing catamaran syndicate, again a Lucia 40 from Fountaine Pajot, is now fully sold and off on adventures!

The six lucky shareholders include four Auckland couples and their families, plus two couples from out of Auckland.  We’re already hearing some fantastic stories and seeing some incredible photos  from the boats first trips, which is what this new boat is all about!

Having out of towner’s is pretty common with Ownaship syndicates — and especially for our catamarans — which attract sailors from all over NZ. Auckland being, after all, one of the best sailing destinations in the world. In fact, in our other Lucia 40 syndicate a full four of the six shareholders are from out of Auckland.

Kaia — Ownaship’s second Lucia 40 syndicate — tests her sails out for the first time.

For us it’s a real pleasure to have these shareholders on board; to be able to offer them the opportunity to own a sailboat in Auckland — an endeavour which, done alone, is out of reach  for most.

For our out of towner’s we try to make boat ownership even easier by offering free gear storage and grocery delivery right to the boat, in addition to the walk on / walk off service that everyone enjoys. This means a shareholder can turn up with the boat fully stocked with groceries, water sports and fishing gear already on board, beds made, beach and bath towels at the ready, and all maintenance and servicing checks done. This is the essence of what we do — to allow our shareholders the easy, hassle-free holidays that they want.

One of Kaia’s four double cabins, ready to go!

One of these shareholders is in fact Ownaship’s fearless leader and managing director Simon Barker, who finally succumbed to his own sales pitch (after an 8-year hiatus) and bought one of his own shares. Simon doesn’t yet know how to sail, but with our sailing trainer helping him and his family get up speed (full training is included with all our new shares) we’re confident (read: hoping) he’ll soon be teaching the rest of us — when he invites us out!

Simon and the rest of this syndicates owners can look forward to trips up to 10 days in length, exploring the wonderful islands of the Hauraki Gulf and beyond.

Next up on the sailing catamaran front — joining us in late 2020 is an award winning Astrèa 42. You can read more about that syndicate here.

Two New Catamarans Almost Fully Sold

It’s now under a month until Ownaship’s second Lucia 40 arrives in New Zealand, just in time for the Auckland on Water Boat Show.

Our brand new release MY40 won’t be far behind either, arriving at the beginning of December. Only one or two shares remain in each, though with summer approaching it won’t be that way for long.

Both the Lucia 40 and MY40 are award winning models from the world-renowned French catamaran builder Fountaine Pajot, so their syndication represents an exciting opportunity for anyone looking for a more affordable, hassle free way to enjoy one of these luxury vessels.

As far as power catamarans go the MY40 is a true market leader, having been released earlier this year to some impressive international acclaim, including winning Best Multihull Motor Yacht Under 50ft at the 2019 Singapore Yacht Show. It is Ownaship’s first power catamaran syndicate as well our first syndicate to be split into ¼ shares, which was a decision based primarily on demand.

“There is a lot of interest in catamarans these days and we had an existing Ownaship shareholder who had been asking us to do a power catamaran syndicate for a while, so was an easy decision for us” accoriding to Ownaship Owner / Managing Director Simon Barker. The company had another buyer for two ¼ shares at the time of order meaning the whole syndicate was almost complete before papers had been signed. The last ¼ share is still up for grabs though, and with the America’s cup coming up there won’t be too many better options for viewing than this one.

For the sailors amongst us the Lucia 40 sailing catamaran syndicate is a great option as well. Just like the MY40 this syndicate is almost fully sold, though the split is six ways not four. This six-way split means the Lucia 40 will have the benefit of Ownaship’s walk on, walk off management service, making it an enticing option for those looking for a truly hassle free boating experience without the hassles and cost of sole ownership.

A 1/6th share means a 57-day allocation per year, with options to take the boat away for up to ten days at a time. That’s enough time to really explore the Bay of Islands or Great Barrier, an adventure which has been had many times already on Ownaship’s first Lucia 40.

Interested in either cat? Get in touch with Ownaship or visit us at the Auckland on Water boat show this October, where they’ll have their new Lucia 40 on display.

Ownaship makes it 19

Ownaship have had a very big year: we’ve taken delivery of five brand new boats, hired two new full time staff and moved into new offices in Westhaven Drive.

Our latest additions to our syndication fleet — a Rayglass 3500 and a Maritimo M51 — both arrived in the last two weeks, an exciting early Christmas present for the 12 lucky shareholders in these new syndicates.

This Rayglass 3500, named Manaia, is the seventh Rayglass 3500 in the Ownaship fleet, a remarkable achievement considering the 3500 was only released in early 2017. Simon Barker, Ownaship’s Owner & Managing Director, puts the 3500’s success down to a range of factors; the fantastic design and layout of the boat itself; the new 1/6th share split; the ever growing popularity of shared ownership; and of course him and his team’s hard work behind the scenes to pull everything together.

Salicia, Ownaship’s third Maritimo M51, also just splashed last week, having been shipped over from Maritimo’s Gold Coast factory just in time for summer. Like the rest of Ownaship’s new generation of syndicate vessels Salicia is to be shared between six shareholders, who have all been waiting patiently for their brand new boat to arrive.

One of the lucky new shareholders is not really new at all, having gone from a Rayglass 2500 to a Rayglass 4000, and then to a Rayglass 3500 before going on to the new Maritimo M51. That’s a classic tale — Ownaship has a fantastic record with shareholder retention, often seeing shareholders through from one of our smaller shares right through to something like the Maritimo M51. “It’s a privilege to have such a loyal base of shareholders, both current and past. They’re our greatest ambassadors, and we have them to thank for where we are today.”

What’s next for our syndication fleet? Number 20 arrives in just a few short weeks and will be Ownaship’s biggest syndication boat to date — a Fountaine Pajot MY40 Power Catamaran!

new office, new signage!

Ok, we admit it — we’ve had the new offices for a little while. We actually moved in back in February. But since our snazzy new signage has only just gone up we’re taking this opportunity to announce our news to you, the internet.

It’s been a very busy year with lots of effort going into hiring new staff, commissioning new boats, and organising the biggest boat shows in our history (hence the signage taking a back seat). But now we’re in full view, bang on the corner of Westhaven Drive and Beaumont Street.

It’s an amazing location for us, close to the boats and also close to our suppliers and partners, most of whom are also located in Westhaven.

With the new signage up we’re experiencing more and more walk in customers and visits from our friendly shareholders. A special thanks to Brett from Boating New Zealand Magazine, who graciously offered to come down and patiently photograph the whole team.

Ownaship expands again — with maritimo

Ownaship have been awarded official Maritimo sales consultant status, a move which means we now offer a full range of syndicated and sole ownership options in a variety of premium vessels, both mono and multihull.

Ownaship have represented Maritimo for several years within the syndication market, so the transition to whole boat sales was a logical next step for us.  We now have  three Maritimo M51’s in syndication and another on order. “Maritimo are a leading luxury motoryacht provider, popular with Kiwi’s who appreciate the quality of construction and design, performance, strength of resale value, and of course the fact that they are manufactured in Australia” say Simon Barker , Ownaship’s Owner / Managing Director.

By expanding Ownaship’s offerings to include sole ownership we give our loyal client base more options, which is perfect for those shareholders who use syndication as a platform to sole ownership.

Ownaship will be at the Auckland on Water Boat Show this week with representatives on the Maritimo stand as well as on their joint stand with Multihull Solutions & Fountaine Pajot.
